A Few Words Well Worth Repeating About This Weekend: It appears unlikely that anglers will see any ice fishing on Presque Isle Bay this year, however the open water we have had all winter has left plenty of other opportunities for both shore and boat fishing as fish begin to move into the bay to spawn. The thing to look for is the water temperature to get to around 65 degrees and if the boats start trolling in front of the creeks that is a sign that the fish are staging. Anglers unable to take to the Lake can find good smallmouth fishing from the shore on the south side of Presque Isle State Park and along the North and South Piers along the Erie Channel. Downstream at Shenango Lake, Ken Smith and a friend caught close to 100 crappies and perch, with each angler keeping their limit of crappies; but the next day, Smith could not get a single crappie bite anywhere on the lake.
